About Blackjack
Some players call the game blackjack and some call it twenty-one. Regardless of what you call it, the object of the game was best explained in the name of Edward O Thorp’s 1963 bestselling book which began the blackjack revolution. The title of the book and the intent of the game is Beat the Dealer!
Blackjack is played with one, two, four, six or eight decks of cards. A few casinos are also using continuous shuffling machine. In single and double deck games the dealer holds the cards and deals them out. In multi-deck games the cards are dealt from a tray like box that is referred to as a shoe. The casinos are starting to look at continuous shufflers which are a shoe that shuffle and even hold the cards.
The games where the player is permitted to pick up his cards after they have been dealt face down by the dealer are known as hand held games. In the shoe game however the cards are dealt face up and while the player could plainly view the cards he can’t touch them. How the game is played still continues to be the same in both instances.
Objective
When playing blackjack the goal will be to beat the dealer. You win the game when the total of your cards is over that of the dealer however , you should never cross 21. You should not be trying to get close to 21. If the hands of you or the dealer goes over 21 then you “bust.” It means that you’ve lost. You win the game if the dealer busts as well as your total is less than 21. As a gambler you have the 1st move. As long as you bust you fail the blackjack game whether or not the dealer goes bust in the same blackjack game.
